Well, it’s about time. Finally a high performance board made for the big fellas.
I have struggled for years to find a board that was big enough for me but that also was very high performance. But when you tell a shaper that you are 6’4” & over 90kg they all seem to make you a board that would float an elephant. I guess Jordy has shown them that big guys can surf well too.
I grabbed a 6’4” x 19 x 2 3/8” Jordy model & paddled out in a descent 3 ft swell to test the theory & I wasn’t disappointed. It felt great just paddling out although it did feel fairly buoyant sitting out the back. This was forgotten about on my first wave as it felt like a perfect match for my height & weight. I had total control & it was solid under my feet. It was strong through turns with a lot of drive but was also loose enough to go wherever you wanted on the wave.
JS has designed this model to covers surfers from 60kgs through to 100kgs plus with which features deeper single concave under the front foot into a double between the fins with a variety of volume variation from nose to tail.
This board is definitely a keeper.
If you’re bigger than the average surfer (what ever that is) then I highly recommend the Jordy Smith model from JS. They come in a range of sizes from 5’10” to 6’6” and several different dimensions of each size.
